A calendar year is January through December. That is the year in the title of a common wall calendar. A yearly 12-up template on this site uses that span. So does the twelve-page year printer.
An academic year, as printed here, is August through July. The year you type is the year that contains August. The last months on the sheet belong to the next calendar year. That matches a common U.S. school pattern. It is not a promise that every district starts in August or ends in July.
A fiscal year can start in July, October, or another month depending on the organization. This site’s fiscal layout is January through December with a fiscal label. It does not invent a July–June government year. If you need a July start, use the academic overview as a visual cousin, or print monthly pages in the order you file them.
Teachers often need both: an academic overview on the cabinet and a calendar-year month on the desk in January. Students filling a homework week still use ordinary weekdays. The academic sheet is the map, not the assignment list.
Holiday marks stay on the civil U.S. list. Spring break will not appear unless you write it. That is deliberate. A homemade academic calendar that pretends to know a district’s in-service days would be a lie.
When you print, say the span in the title out loud: “August 2026 through July 2027” or “Year 2026.” If the title and the months disagree, you picked the wrong type. Switch the layout and look at the preview before you send twelve pages to the printer.
